Bali Apr 2014 - The Legendary Love Curse
Although Vik only spent 2 days in Bali on his 2008 trip to Rinjani, he was enchanted by the island which had everyone wanting to head back for different reasons. He has always wanted to go back to explore the many experiences Bali promised, but Leann held reservations on the love curse: lovers destined to split after a trip to Bali, specifically Tanah Lot. Initially booked and planned as a Rinjani trip (done in Nov 13 thanks to Wu Hui), this became a curse defying all-in-one Balinese adventure: Dive in Amed, Climb Mt Batur, Cycling in Kintamani, Yoga in Ubud, Beach bumming in Kuta, and Massages everywhere!
Australia Dec 2012 - New Year Overseas
Thanks to SCOOT, Vik and Leann didnt have to think twice about their decision to visit Gold Coast as their big trip of the year, although they did top up with a few days in between Gold Coast to celebrate New Year's Day in Sydney. Both of them remembered their times as a kid when they visited both cities, and it helped them to reminiscise and share their childhood stories of the theme parks, farms, and their families. But there were many firsts too! From a high speed gravity defying coaster, to driving through the Gold Coast Hinterland and Sydney Blue Mountains, to camping outdoors with their rented car beside them, to riding horses, to flying in an awesome hot air balloon ride, and counting down to the new year in a foreign land!
Taiwan Jun 2011 - A Trip For Everyone
While deciding their long trip for the year, Vik remembered his promise to bring his mum on a trip 2 years after starting work. It also seemed like a good opportunity for both families to know each other better! (Although 7-2 is a rather overwhelming ratio) Taiwan was the perfect location with its rich culture, beautiful scenery, and familiar language; and it only seemed right to book a tour package for the comfort of their families. Touring the island in 8D7N was really enriching though the weather could have been much better. Leann and Vik also took the opportunity to remain in Taipei for an additional 3 days, where they enjoyed good food, shopping and even managed to catch Aaron Kwok! Taiwan really had so much to offer!
Ireland 2008 and 2010 - The Westlife Story
Ireland holds a special place in their hearts. For Leann, the dream to visit Ireland began with Westlife. The very thought of being there on the Cliffs of Moher where her idols filmed their MTV was surreal and yet so possible. It was clear she had to pay that pilgrimage when she had the chance, as Westlife did indeed change her life. For Vik, Ireland is the only country out of Singapore that he has ever officially lived in. That half year overseas was one of the best times of his life. The places he visited, the friends he made; the experience was truly life changing. Although they never visited Ireland together, they walked the same paths at a different space and time. To conclude, Guinness is good for you. To Arthur!
Croatia Jun 2010 - Adriatic Beauty
It was probably the toughest time for Leann: having to leave Vik, after only 6 months of being together. She never liked being alone, but she knew she had to prove that she was a strong independent woman. Distance made the heart grow fonder, so Leann was delighted that Vik could visit. The timing for this trip was perfect: Vik was transiting to a new post, while Leann was ending her exams. Vik never travelled the same place twice if he could, and since he was the one with limited time, he picked the countries for this trip (even flying to Milan was purposeful - Da Vinci's The Last Supper). Amongst them, Croatia provided the most ideal setting in summer for a couple, and was hence the obvious choice for a longer stay!
Throughout Croatia, they chased the sunsets across Zadar, Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar and Korcula. They also met beautiful people, and were pampered by good weather, good food, and awesome photo-worthy scenery along the adriatic coast. There was really nothing more they could ask for! (except the chance to have visited the Lavender fields in Hvar)
Hong Kong Dec 2009 - Their 1st Overseas Adventure
It was the ideal present for Leann's 21st birthday. The (rather pricey) return ticket to Hong Kong was significant because it was their first overseas trip as a couple (a good test for them both) and they needed this time together before she flew to Lithuania for exchange. What's more, Vik had never been there, and Fenny's presence there gave them the perfect reason to visit Hong Kong. 6D5N was definitely not enough to experience Hong Kong and Macau, but thanks to all their friends there, it was hugely enjoyable and very memorable for them. The cool temperatures and christmas feel were a definite plus since Leann also needed to shop for cold weather clothes.
Vietnam May 2009 - The Trip To Begin It All
Vik's Grad Trip with Thor, Huifen, and Weida was a month long; through Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos to mark the last ounce of freedom they had before working life consumed them. Vik constantly updated Leann on the plans, hoping to cheer up her troubled days, and also to entice her to join them. It was the getaway Leann needed, and she knew she could trust Vik to take care of things; he always did. She wasn't worried about the company too, because Vik was a seasoned traveller, and would know how to pick his companions. The only trouble was convincing her parents that the eleven days in Vietnam was necessary, affordable, and safe. Lucky for her, and for Vik too, that she took the plunge, convinced her parents, and joined them for a thoroughly enjoyable adventure through the beautiful country. They visited interesting places, met interesting people, experienced interesting culture, ate interesting food, and eventually stirred some interesting feelings that left them missing each other when they went their separate ways. As they texted across the long distance, the heart grew fonder, and it was only a matter of time before they got together when he returned to Singapore. Thus began their journey..
